Botox and Dysport are both effective solutions to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. They can provide a smoother and more youthful looking appearance. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and requires no downtime, making them a convenient option.

Permanent lines in the skin that occur over time are caused simply as a result of making normal facial expressions like smiling or frowning. Muscle relaxers like Botox and Dysport, can provide a good solution for people who wish to correct the appearance of dynamic wrinkles like crow’s feet, frown lines or forehead wrinkles.

Botox and Dysport are both injectables that work by decreasing carefully selected muscle contractions. One of the major causes of wrinkles of the face is repetitive facial movements. Botox and Dysport lessen the strength of the contraction to soften lines. At Point Clear Studio, we carefully examine your skin type and discuss your expectations to provide optimal dosage and treatment to ensure natural results.

Botox vs Dysport

Botox and Dysport are similar in nature and effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Both come from botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein that is safe when used in small amounts. Although Botox and Dysport can be used for improving various medical conditions, their most popular use is to diminish wrinkles. Both injectables are considered non-invasive and work by temporarily relaxing facial muscles. The differences between the two are rooted in their trace proteins and how they are manufactured.

One of the main differences between Dysport and Botox is the areas in which they are approved for use. Dysport is primarily used for correcting glabellar lines, the frown lines between your eyebrows. Dysport is a great option for those who have moderate to severe frown lines.

Botox, on the other hand, can be used to treat many different types of wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines. Botox may be a good option if you have mild to moderate wrinkles. Some people have experienced quicker results with Dysport, noticing a reduction in wrinkles only in 2-3 days. The results of Botox generally take around a week to appear. Both injections reveal their peak results around 2 weeks. When looking at how long the results last, both Dysport and Botox last around 3-4 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Botox & Dysport work?

Both injectables are neurotoxins made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action. The neurotoxin targets the nervous system to prevent the release of a chemical called acetylcholine. It effectively disrupts the nerve signals that cause muscle contraction, leading to temporary muscle relaxation and paralysis.

Is Botox or Dysport right for me?

Many people are good candidates for Botox or Dysport. Muscle relaxers are suitable for almost all adults under 65 years of age. Although both Botox and Dysport provide a fast, effective solution for wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement, deeper lines that are the result of volume loss will require dermal fillers instead. It is very common to combine muscle relaxers with other injectables for more comprehensive results. Individuals who meet the following criteria are the most ideal candidates for Botox or Dysport:
Are at least 18 years old
Are physically and mentally healthy
Do not have a skin infection or outbreak in the treatment area
Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
Have no history of neuromuscular disease
Do not have an allergy to the Botox or Dysport ingredients
Have realistic expectations for what Dysport can achieve

When should I start muscle relaxers?

PBotox and Dysport should be considered when you start to see a facial line at rest meaning without muscle contraction. It can also be done preventatively, starting as soon as you see significant lines with muscle contraction such as raising eyebrows or frowning.

How should I prepare for my visit?

There is no special preparation but patients who are taking supplements or medications that can increase bleeding are at higher risk of bruising. You should inform our office before treatment if you are using any of the following: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, or Alcohol. If possible, you should avoid aspirin containing products 14 days before your procedure and NSAIDS 7 days prior to treatment. Avoid alcohol 48 hours before the injection.

What happens during the procedure?

At your initial consultation, Dr. Greer will talk with you about your aesthetic goals and explain the treatment options and target areas that will give you the best result. Dr Greer will also explain what you can expect during your procedure and talk about the outcome. At your treatment session, Dr. Greer will begin by asking you to make your normal facial expressions so he can study the way your facial muscles contract. This will help him plan the most effective placement for your injections. Next, the product is injected directly into the targeted muscles. While the injections typically result in little to no discomfort, those patients who are more sensitive my request a topical anesthetic.
